Petite Piping is preferred for smocked garments over the bulky regular piping you will find in chain fabric store which is more suitable for pillows and/or coats.  Piping helps stabilize your pleated fabric after smocking.  Some attach it to the pleated piece itself but I prefer to attach the piping to the yoke or pattern piece the smocking is going to be attached to and use th stitch in the ditch method I found in an old SAGA (Smocking Arts Guild).  If you are interested in how to attach piping to your smocking, please read the article titled "Best Way to Sew On Piping" in our Smocking Newsletter Vol. 1 Issue 3a.  Colors match Imperial Broadcloth and Imperial Batiste colors.
