The simple kimono shape, a perfect background for any intricate design or decorative detail, has fascinated artists and designers for centuries. The kimono look has been experiencing a renaissance of wear in recent years with the silk painters and movie star (Elizabeth Taylor's Silk and Velvets at the Oscars a couple of years ago). Exceptional pattern. Ethnic chic I'd call it. You have a perfect merger of a traditional asiatic jacket merged with the unmistakable style of Lois Ericson into a loose fitting all weather jacket. In her books she encourages going back to the sources of ethnic clothing inspirations (the garments of the ancient cultures) and extrapolating the idea or design concept that sparks your imagination to create your own style. This loose pattern is a perfect jumping off point for you or you can duplicate and make your own adaptation of this pattern. Would look lovely in sandwashed rayon or silk, leather, wool challis, suitings or corduroy. Also would go nicely in raw silks or silk velvet. An elegant coat for travelling to the city or on an adventure.
