MM#5 Claire I - Premmie to Newborn (Fits small baby dolls)

Square yoke style front-opening gown with short or long sleeves smocked at the lower edge.  The Peter Pan collar is trimmed with piping and a narrow lace frill.  The piped front button band is easy to construct.

MM#6 Claire 2 - Premmie to Newborn

Easy to construct, this daygown has a smocked front skirt falling from below the piped lower edge of the front yoke.  The gown opens up through the entire back.  Short or long raglan sleeve variations are finished iwth a stretch rib trim band at the lower edge.  The neckline is bound and can be trimmed with narrow piping or a lace frill.  The gown can be made of either woven or lightweight knit fabrics.

Patterns also suitable for dolls.   Easy to Sew Kimono Sleeve Daygowns and bonnets for Preeemies Sizes 1lb, 2 1/2 lbs, 3-4lbs, 5-6 lbs.   Daygown Pattern Length.   Suitable fabrics like cashmere flannel, Swiss Flannel, and crushed cottons are ideal for the preemie daygown.  Traditional heirloom sewing fabrics like Imperial batiste and broadcloth are fine, and Swiss batiste work well for the dressier variations.  Consider the type of embellishment when choosing your fabric, using the heavier fabrics for machine embroidery and the sheer fabrics for hand embroidery and shadow work.  A cotton fabric or cotton blend fabric is suitable for the bonnet.  A fabric with some body will hold the shape of the bonnet better than a softer fabric.

"Mary Anna's Smocked Bonnet" features a lace-edged ruffle on the back edge of the smocking which encircles the baby's tiny face without hiding it. The newborn size pattern is unique in that it actually fits a newborn baby and can be worn home from the hospital. The pattern features a growth tuck at the center back seam and an open back casing so that the ribbon can be adjusted to add fullness as the baby grows.
